The Front Table at Mitchell’s

My book is in there. ON THE FRONT TABLE! STANDING UP, no less.

Every time I drive up Main Street, I am a hazard to other motorists and pedestrians alike. You see, I am not looking at the road. No no no. As I approach the bank, I am instead craning my head to the left to see if a copy of EVER NEAR is still standing up on the front table at Mitchell’s.

I have been going to Mitchell’s Book Corner since I was a little girl. Mimi Beman, the iconic owner of Mitchell’s for so many years, used to come and get her coffee from me when I was a teenager working at the Nantucket Pharmacy Soda Fountain across the street. Back then, having my book standing up on the front table of Mitchell’s was an impossible dream. Now, there it is.

I stopped tonight and took a picture and decided to share it here. Because seriously, how cool is that? How often do dreams actually come true?

Melissa was born and mostly raised on Nantucket Island, and she currently lives there with her husband and two teenage children. When not being a wife and mother and teaching writing to seventh graders, she enjoys binge watching shows like Big Little Lies, House of Cards, and Outlander. Despite the rumors to the contrary, she does not actually wish she was a teenager again, nor does she see ghosts like the main character in her first novel, Ever Near. She does, however, love to hear from readers so send her a message on social media or at her email: Twitter: @MelissaMacVicar Facebook: Melissa MacVicar Instagram: melissa.macvicar

  1. So cool Melissa, thanks for sharing! I think Ever Near is the best looking title on the table. Next would be the one w/the cute puppy. 😉 For me, walking into my childhood library and seeing my book sitting on the shelf would be my dream come true. So glad it happened for you!
